Tiny Home Designed To Mimic A ‘Nest’ – Now It’s One Of The Most Unique Houses In Texas

Lindsey and Simon McNeny train wildlife for a living and wanted their home to reflect their love of animals. Luckily, they chose the perfect designer for the job.

You might know Kim Lewis as the Lead Designer on the show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” She is also the founder of Kim Lewis Designs in Austin, Texas. Lewis recently teamed up with the McNeny’s and decorated their incredible tiny home built by Canyon Creek Builder.

“These tiny home owners have dedicated their lives to the preservation and education of wildlife, most specifically exotic birds. For the story behind their design, I wanted to create a tiny home that felt ‘Gathered’, like their own NEST,” Lewis says on her website.

The exterior of the home, named “The Perch,” there are mismatched windows and different types of wood.

“I covered the exterior with reclaimed wood pieces we salvaged from a local home on the demo list. No patterns, just random install, like a bird would build their nest,” Lewis explains.

Step inside, and you’re immediately surrounded by overflowing vintage charm.

The small but functional space has tall vaulted ceilings and beautiful skylights. Upstairs is the roomy sleeping loft where you can gaze at the stars before falling asleep, and wake up to the morning sunlight.

The kitchen features a full-size stove, oven, and refrigerator, along with plenty of counter space for prepping meals.

Unfinished wood, partnered with tiny details in the decor, make The Perch feel like its been around for centuries.

A small dining area with colorful stools is situated near the large windows. The perfect place to enjoy a meal.

The seating area is opposite the dining area and doubles as an extra single bed for guests.

“For the sofa cushion, we took discontinued fabric swatches and sewed them together. The windows are from the local surplus store, and metal ceiling tiles were salvaged,” Lewis says about The Perch.

Extra storage is located both under the sofa and the refrigerator.

The multi-shaped windows add a fun and interesting design element to the home.

Every single aspect of The Perch was designed down to the detail.

The home also has a towing hitch to be moved to different locations.

After dedicating their lives to training wildlife and loving animals, the McNeny’s have a comfy, cozy ‘nest’ of their own.
