When you’re part of a family, you love them no matter what – even if they try to embarrass you in public! That’s what Barbara Nielsen had to endure when her husband and 4-year-old son welcomed her home from the airport.
She was coming back to Oklahoma after a business trip to Michigan and was excited to see her family. But when she walked off the plane and out of the security checkpoint, her eyes floated over to her son and the sign he was holding.
Her first reaction was to grab her phone and take a photo of her smiling son and his sign! What in the world was this about?
As soon as they returned home from the airport, Barbara shared the photo she snapped of her son online. Friends around the country started to crack up – but then one of them reached out to her directly.
She wanted to share the photo on her page. Barbara agreed, not knowing the post would quickly grow to garner more than 149,000 shares and 89,000 likes. Everyone thought her son’s sign was absolutely hilarious!
Barbara shared the story behind the sign with Love What Matters, saying:
“I am Barbara and live in Oklahoma with my husband and son. My husband and I have been together for 10 years. He is the love of my life and I feel blessed to have him in my life. We have this truly amazing little boy.
I work for a company out of the Fort Smith area and it is shutting down. I traveled to Michigan on business to train someone else to do what I do. I was gone for about a week. I called my husband to let him know I would be a little late, but to make sure to have our son waiting at the airport for me.
I couldn’t wait to see them. I got off the plane and headed down the aisle to see them. I spotted my husband first but wasn’t close enough to see my son yet.
Once I got closer I could see my son holding something and then I read it…”
“I just looked at my husband with a big grin and rolled my eyes at him. My son then dropped the sign and gave me a big hug and kiss. I later learned it was a last-minute idea.
He searched online to find some funny signs and decided to go with the ‘Welcome home from prison, Mom.’ He didn’t tell my son what it said but had him hold it.
Our son is only 4 so of course, he can’t read it yet.
I posted it later and my friend Jessica thought it was the funniest thing and asked to share it. And what we thought would get a few laughs and shares ended up getting over 140,000 shares!”
Her son had no idea what the sign said, but Barbara’s husband Brandon sure got a kick out of it! He chucked to himself the whole way home!
This photo will definitely crack up their son when he gets old enough to understand. Imagine the turning heads as fellow passengers walked by Brandon and the grinning 4-year-old!
