It’s always best to listen to your body as there is always a reason for pain. For Josh Gray, a stomach ache turned out to be a deadly occurrence. While in class at Dawson High School in Texas, the 17-year-old started getting pain in his stomach so he listened to his body and went to the nurse’s office. Just two hours later, Josh was dead. It turned out that the pain was associated with a ruptured artery that led to Josh’s pancreas. The pancreas ruptured shortly after the artery did and the bleeding was so bad that it was unable to be stopped.
Doctors claim that there was no way to foresee the tragedy.
“He went from going to school yesterday morning — normal day, happy — to having a stomach ache, to within two hours not being with us anymore,” said Josh’s mother, Laurie Gray.
As to be expected, Josh’s family and friends are dealing with immense grief from the loss that happened so quickly. On a mission to cover the expenses that have incurred as a result of Josh’s untimely death, they have set up an online fundraiser. They are also raising awareness and fundraising for research that will be dedicated to finding cures for rare underlying diseases. The initial goal was to raise $30,000 and they’ve already surpassed that and raised $34,000.
Friends who loved him dearly shared a bit about who Josh was as a person…
“Josh loved everyone for who they were,” Josh’s friend, Austin Hurst, said. “I’m loud and obnoxious; he loved that about me. I mean, he loved all of us for exactly who we were. And that was the best part about being with Josh; you could be you.”
“We love Josh,” his friend, Seth Blunt, said. “We all love Josh. He’s connected to us.”
Josh had been planning to go on a mission trip this summer and his friends have decided to go, in support of Josh and his memory. Traveling and golf were a big part of his life.
This is such a devastation for the family. They had been going about their lives unaware of anything being wrong and then one day, their young son, friend and sibling dies within hours. It proves that we need to cherish every single moment because no one knows how long they have before their loved ones are gone.
Commenters shared their thoughts on the tragic incident…
“What a rare and tragic event in someone so young no one would have picked that up. So sad for the family RIP.”
“Unbelievable. God bless him and his family.”
“So Sad, such a handsome young man, Sorry for your Loss, Prayers.”
Hopefully, his family and friends will find solace in raising funds to help others who suffer from rare conditions such as this one. While rare, there must have been other incidents like this and maybe in the future, someone’s life can be saved if there are ways of detecting such an issue. For Josh, his young life ended far too soon.
