Amid Rumors Bush Family Shaken By Former First Lady’s Final Decision Concerning Health Battle

Beloved former first lady Barbara Bush has spent her life stoically standing beside her husband while he was in office, then stood behind her son as he worked his way up the political ladder to also become president. But now, her family is standing beside her and she lives out her final days. No one else other than Abigail Adams and Barbara can claim to have been married to a U.S. president and mother to a U.S. president. But her family has disclosed that she is in failing health and is no longer seeking treatment.

Over the past year, the family has found themselves in and out of hospitals. Barbara, 92, has dealt with congestive heart failure for quite some time and most recently, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease that required her to be on oxygen. She has decided she does not want to return to the hospital for further medical treatment and instead is being cared for at her home in Houston, Texas, comforted by her extensive family. Barbara’s refusal to seek additional medical care has shaken up her husband, the former president, who suffers from a form of Parkinson’s disease that confines him to a wheelchair. The couple has been married for 73 years.

The family released a statement that read, “It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself – thanks to her abiding faith – but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving.” Learn more about Barbara and her final days in the video below. We pray for peace and comfort for Barbara and her family during this difficult time.
